Ribs Must Be the Most Common Bone In The Body To Be Broken!

Since the publication of my article on “How to sleep with a broken rib” way back in 2007, it has been and continues to be the most read article on my blog!

And my site stats shows the search words for broken ribs is almost every day!

I am beginning to think the people are breaking their ribs every day.

What is your experience out there?

    Hello Rodney Itaki,

I think the commonest bone to get fractured as an adult is the humerus or distal parts of Radius and Ulna. In children I think the commonest fracture seen is that of the clavicle, followed by the fore arm bones. As a matter of fact during my internship in the orthopedic department in one of India’s top tertiary care hospital I saw very few rib fracture cases. I think they are kind of “flexible” due to the anatomy and may tolerate the injuries far more than other bones. I think Orthopedicians can comment better in this matter. I remember breaking a few ribs while performing CPR during my initial days and used to think the same that they are so easily broken.
